Nakshatra — questions

What is a nakshatra (birth star)?

The zodiac is divided into 27 nakshatras (lunar mansions). Your birth star is the nakshatra the Moon occupied at the moment you were born — the basis for your character reading, name syllables, Tara Bala day ratings and marriage matching.

How do I find my nakshatra by date of birth?

Enter your date, time and place of birth above. The tool computes the Moon's exact position with the Swiss Ephemeris and tells you your nakshatra, its pada (quarter) and your Moon sign — instantly and free.

Can I find my nakshatra without my birth time?

Usually yes. The Moon stays in one nakshatra for about a day, so for most birth dates the star is the same all day. If the Moon changed stars on your birth date, the exact time decides which one is yours.

What is a pada?

Each nakshatra is divided into four padas (quarters). Your pada fine-tunes the reading — it sets the navamsa sign and, traditionally, the auspicious first syllable of a baby's name.
